PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Irving selected the team of Wiginton Hooker Jeffry, PC Architects and Jackson & Ryan Architects to provide professional services for the Design and Engineering of a New Animal Shelter to house the operations of the DFW Humane Society and the City of Irving Animal Services on approximately twelve acres of land located in Irving, Texas. The new facility will replace the existing shelter and humane society facilities by combining the services of both agencies under one roof. The design approach will utilize shared common areas such as lobbies, restrooms, conference rooms and staff support areas thus maximizing the space available for state-of-the-art animal housing and treatment areas. It is the goal of the City of Irving to significantly increase public awareness of the proper treatment of animals, increase pet adoption rates and decrease euthanasia of healthy adoptable animals by providing a facility viewed as a safe haven for homeless companion animals housed in comfortable and humane conditions.
Wiginton Hooker Jeffry, PC Architects (WHJ) teamed with Martha Seng of Jackson & Ryan Architects (J&R) in Houston, Texas based on her expertise and excellence in designing animal shelters tailored to the unique requirements of each community. Jackson & Ryan Architects is providing 80% of the design services in the Programming, Schematic Design and Design Development phase of the project. WHJ is providing Project Management services during the Programming, Schematic Design and Design Development phase of the project. As the project progresses to the Construction Documents phase, J&R will produce specifications and drawings for products and areas specific to animal housing and treatment. WHJ will continue to provide Project Management services, produce the specifications and drawings for products and areas not provided by J&R, coordinate the work of consulting engineers and oversee the general coordination of work and quality control of the documents. It is anticipated that WHJ will produce 70% of the work during the Construction Documents phase. WHJ will oversee the Bid phase services with J&R participating at approximately 10% of the work during this phase. During the Construction Administration phase of the project, WHJ will act as the primary contact between Owner and Contractor with J&R assisting in the review of submittals and installation of products and areas specific to animal housing and treatment. It is anticipated that the fee for the Construction Administration phase will be divided 80-20 with WHJ providing the greater portion of the work during this phase.
WHJ and J&R will also provide Interior Design and Signage Design services on the New Animal Shelter project. WHJ will produce 60% of the work during toward these efforts. J&R will provide expertise in product and material selection for animal housing and treatment areas while WHJ will coordinate overall color and material selections.
